How Reliable Wireless Broadband Helps Local Businesses Grow
Wireless broadband provides fast, dependable connections that enable businesses to keep operating even when teams are away or primary wirelines are down. Offering flexible options like fixed and mobile connections, wireless broadband allows companies to better serve customers.
Rural areas who invest in high-speed internet experience 213% greater business growth. Connectivity is more than a tool – it’s an essential strategy for success!
1. Boosts Sales
No matter the business need – whether that be responding to emails, sharing product announcements on social media platforms or providing video consultations with customers – Wi-Fi connectivity is vital to business success in today’s digital economy. Small businesses armed with reliable connectivity can drive economic expansion while simultaneously expanding their reach.
Studies conducted on communities with access to high-speed broadband Internet have revealed more business startup activity among rural counties with adoption rates exceeding 60%, than similar communities that only adopted at 50% or below. Such rural counties saw over 10% higher business growth as compared with similar communities with less than 50% adoption.
Broadband has contributed significantly to business expansion by helping entrepreneurs overcome market entry barriers and access essential tools and resources more easily. Furthermore, broadband enables local companies to extend their customer reach using cloud-based services and remote work opportunities, potentially opening up additional sales channels and new revenue streams.
With fast, reliable Internet access, small businesses can build an engaging online presence that attracts more customers while providing better service. From using LTE wireless plans for remote work or fiber or low-Earth orbit satellite internet for hard-to-reach areas to using satellite internet for hard-to-reach areas – having the right broadband service will put your business ahead of its competition and allow employees to collaborate easily on projects and share files, ultimately increasing productivity.
2. Increases Customer Service
Businesses rely on strong internet access to deliver excellent customer service – from answering emails and responding to Yelp reviews, to video chatting customers directly through video consultation and remote work platforms like e-commerce and remote working applications that enable businesses to expand their market reach and expand customer bases.
Broadband access has proven instrumental in driving local economic development and helping small businesses, which account for 40% of America’s economic output and two-thirds of net new job creation, compete and innovate effectively in today’s digital economy. Broadband can play a pivotal role in supporting rural communities’ efforts for economic development and resilience.
As consumers increasingly become disenchanted with large ISPs for their reliability, transparency, and lack of community engagement practices, many consumers are turning towards smaller providers such as small ISPs and municipal networks as an alternative source for superior service, community investment, local ownership and people-first connectivity solutions – even in remote communities. These providers demonstrate that people-first connectivity solutions can exist even where large networks cannot.
Turney in northwest Missouri was recently chosen as a test site in an ongoing study assessing how new wireless broadband internet access affects residents’ quality of life. Residents were surveyed both before and after installation of their new service. This study employs a quasi-experimental design, which compares households from treatment and control groups in order to draw causal inferences. As part of this process, the community’s existing broadband infrastructure was used, including CenturyLink wired service and KC Coyote wireless service from CenturyLink as well as United Fiber’s 100/20 Mbps broadband network – providing wireless service where line-of-sight issues such as trees or hills had prevented sufficient coverage before.
3. Creates New Opportunities
Rural entrepreneurs using broadband internet to launch an e-commerce business open themselves up to new customers and opportunities, but if their connection is slow or unstable they could lose out on sales and profits altogether. Reliable connectivity has therefore become one of the cornerstones of community economic development efforts.
Rural communities now have access to all the same opportunities offered to urban counterparts through high-speed fiber internet – remote work, education and healthcare are just a few examples – that strengthen local economies while building resilience in today’s constantly shifting marketplace.
Telemedicine has changed rural healthcare significantly, improving patient outcomes while simultaneously increasing productivity by shortening doctor appointments to half the usual duration. Rural clinics can serve up to 50 percent more patients without incurring costly travel costs, and online learning platforms allow rural students to enroll in courses which boost graduation rates while simultaneously creating an experienced workforce sought by employers.
High-speed internet is also helping foster creativity and innovation. By connecting artists and innovators to resources, mentors, and collaborators, broadband enables a creative economy that supports cultural enrichment as well as economic expansion. Communities investing in broadband experience 213% higher business growth compared to their underserved peers – evidence of its transformative power.
Rural communities require more than mere investment to expand their economies, however. Unfortunately, despite recent improvements, digital divides still remain entrenched. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), rural counties that use broadband more effectively are attracting new businesses while those that use less are losing them. A study conducted in northwest Missouri discovered that households with fast, reliable internet are growing faster and generating greater tax revenues while creating jobs more rapidly than their counterparts with slower service – leading them on to new opportunities faster than expected.
4. Increases Employee Engagement
Internet connectivity has become an essential element of business productivity in the modern economy, from email marketing and social media updates, video consultation tools and live chat platforms that connect businesses directly with customers in real time, to studies suggesting broadband Internet access directly affects local economic growth by increasing customer engagement and improving productivity.
Small businesses operating in rural, remote and traditionally underserved communities rely heavily on reliable wireless broadband Internet to reach their full economic potential. Without it, entrepreneurs would be limited to creating products and services tailored solely towards one target audience and failing to stay competitive in an ever-evolving market.
Provided they have reliable Internet, small businesses can scale up operations to meet rising customer demands, expanding to serve a larger customer base. In addition, cloud applications and remote work tools enable them to tap into new markets both locally and internationally.
Reliable Internet provides employees with greater mobility, allowing them to work from the convenience of home or remotely from any location – leading to more engaged and productive workers who, in turn, provide improved customer experiences.
Researchers conducting a recent study in Turney, Missouri discovered that most households who obtained broadband internet service were motivated to sign up primarily for quality-of-life reasons. For instance, their primary use would be for streaming videos and gaming applications that required high speed connections, as well as distance education/telemedicine applications and business development opportunities. Many residents indicated an interest in taking advantage of their new connection as an entrepreneurial tool or other opportunities available through it.
5. Creates New Jobs
Internet use has become an essential component of business creation and maintenance today, from conducting customer transactions online, job seekers searching online job boards, to high-speed broadband being essential components of today’s information economy. Numerous studies have linked higher speed internet expansion with increased business creation and growth both urban and rural regions – however access alone does not assure success as workers lacking reliable access may lack digital skills required for new opportunities that arise online.
Effective interventions to narrow the digital divide focus on improving both access and affordability. This strategy can be implemented by community-level groups, government agencies and private companies – from providing direct subsidies for equipment purchases by residents in neighborhoods with poor connectivity to installing wireless networks where there is limited connectivity. Furthermore, federal and state grants often stipulate requirements for affordability policies as part of their grant agreements.
Broadband investment creates new jobs in fields related to network construction, maintenance and operation. These positions provide high-quality employment opportunities for workers who may lack other employment options in their communities. Broadband-related jobs offer entry points into highly skilled occupations while giving low-income residents an avenue up the income ladder.
As broadband becomes a necessity for more households, demand for qualified employees in this industry will only increase. Unfortunately, the workforce shortage will only widen with increasing demand; governments should create policy solutions to expand supply of trained workers while simultaneously increasing training opportunities for existing employees so broadband services can be delivered efficiently throughout America.
